Meet our Staff

Kevin Stewart: Kevin has15+ years experience in Museum Quality art restoration and has handled
over 900 art objects including:
-Oil paintings (c. 1550 to present)        -Ivory miniatures
-Egg tempera                                     -Leather items
-Wooden sculpture                             -Antique prints
-Marble sculpture                               -Photographs
His specialty is restoring objects that most people would discard because of the damage involved.  
Restoration techniques include:
-Restretching        -Patching/Lining        -Infilling of voids

-Soot removal       -Odor removal          -Treating mold and mildew
Kevin's methods are predominately self-taught.  He apprenticed with June Maynard Harris, a
seasoned regional artist and antiques dealer, for 9 years.  She taught Kevin the correct way to
create an oil painting as well as techniques to repair one.  Over the past 15 years, he has researched
different techniques for restoration and have applied those to his practice. He is known for using
problem solving skills to save pieces of art that most people would view as hopeless.

Scott Stewart: Scott began his career in photography with United Press International.  Later, he
joined the Associated Press to cover the White House and Washington, D.C. region.  Besides his
duties at Carolina Conservation, he also works as an instructor of photography and photo restoration
and Greenville Technical College.

John Umberger, B.A., M.E.: After 25 years of international travel that included the major
museums of Great Britain, Europe, Africa, and the Mid-East, John joined Carolina Conservation
five years ago as business manager and marketing director. John's 25 years of experience in

1. Do I have to be a large company to enjoy the quality of our services?
No. We work on all projects, big or small.  Let us care for your family heirlooms and help you to restore your memories.

2. Is your studio secure?
Yes. Our facility is climate controlled and alarmed.  We also use jeweler and firearm safes, and all artwork is insured up to
$1 million.

3. Where is the work performed?
All work is performed in house.

4. Do you offer pick-up and delivery?
Yes.  We will pick-up your artwork at no charge, call you within 48 hours with an estimate, and return the artwork to you,
at no charge, when the work has been completed.  We want to make this easy for you!
